Admin Drive ’09 -

We find our selves in need of admins and would like to give everyone who wants it a shot. All the details are in this thread. Good luck!

Applications came in at a staggering rate and with almost 75 applications submitted I have locked the thread and the reviewing process will now begin. Thanks to everyone who submitted an application!
Update 2:
We had a very long discussion about every applicant and after narrowed it down to these finalists:

Spring Break -

My spring break just ended and I don’t know if anyone else is still having theirs; but, Happy Spring Break anyway. I’m happy to see Sassilization can run by itself without any problems if don’t log on for an entire week. Many thanks to Cold and the Sassilization crew for making that happen.
Unfortunately, PulsarEffect was hacked and PERP was stolen in the process, which was then release. It sucks to see that happen to such a great, potential community. Hopefully Hunts can turn it around and take this as an opportunity to recode some things; maybe make PERP even better than it was. Hopefully he can pull a “Valve”.
It’s been two weeks since the last blog post and this one has hardly any content. I will try to see if I can find some more content filled news to post.

Confusion about Nuclear Warfare and the Lounge -

The same question keeps coming up about Nuclear Warfare: “Will it be associated with the lounge or will it be on its own separate server?”
Nuclear Warfare will not have a lobby system like Sassilization does. The gamemode will be hosted on our second server box; probably more than one server and it will be connected to your Sassilization.com account for things like bonus dough, records and playtime. We do not plan on releasing Nuclear Warfare at the moment. We also do not plan on having special upgrades for Nuclear Warfare like Sassilization. Hopefully this clears up the big questions, if you have smaller ones feel free to ask them in a comment.

I recently caught a bug and haven’t been feeling myself lately.
Still hard at work on Nuclear Warfare though.

Hey, I hope most of you guys know me. I’m Jaanus and I’m in charge of (most of) the visual side in Sassilization and Nuclear Warfare.
Since gamemodes/mods that are developed in complete secrecy are usually full of shit, here’s small example of stuff I’ve been working on lately:

Old Gamemodes -

I was looking at some of my older content I did a while back.
Nuklear Warfare
Does anyone remember this? It was going to be nuclear based warfare Real-Time strategy game. I was so impressed by Jinto‘s nuke that I found immediate inspiration to start making a gamemode just for it. Unfortunately, I started before asking Jinto if I could actually ‘use’ his nuke. It turns out he never released it. Jinto no longer scripts Lua in GMod; instead, him and his partner Foszor are working on their own game engine. Foszor updates his blog really frequently and they have some neat work going on.




Sassawinia
This is something that just never took off from the beginning. Basically it was a test to see how it would look to have 2d units like Darwinia. I did not get much further than the unit creation/deletion and player loading and rejoining script (unlike old Sassilization, if you rejoined, you still had all of your possesions and it remembered who you were).






Restaurants
Back in my days of making Starcraft maps, I made an extremely fun Simulation game I called Restaurants (4 Teams compete to create and run the most successful restaurants in a week [days are hours, minutes are seconds]). “GMod has no simulation game-modes…” I thought, and I decided to give it a go. I did not get very far at all on this one (not like I ever do). All I had was a nice map, with upgradable restaurant portions like an extension, windows, etc. And a outdoor traffic system where NPCs and cars would walk and drive around. It was cool because cars would slam into NPCs as they crossed the street and screech to a stop, then slowly drive off like they didn’t do anything.




Border Patrol
This one is fairly recent. GMod needed a tower defense game. When I found out Spacetech was starting his own (still currently being worked on) and I thought, “this could be fun!” His is the more classical, grid-based Tower Defense style game which is great because you simply cannot go wrong there. I wanted to do something along the lines of first-person, build sentries and fight the horde of monsters trying to get by. At first I was using NPCs (horrible mistake as you can see by the net_graph in the first screen-cap). Lucky for me, AzuiSleet hopped on board and went to work on his own Ai_director which uses usermessages and clientside models to do the work, the rest is animations and effects.

There was an update released recently that changed steamids in the following way: STEAM_0:0:XXXX became STEAM_1:0:XXXXXX. We will be awaiting the fix from Valve. Until further notice our servers will be offline.
