Server Changes - By cold on June 27th, 2009

Like I posted on our Steam group (go join if you aren’t a member) we have decided to switch server providers as a result of our increasing bandwidth needs. Our current host just doesn’t offer reasonable prices once you need to buy additional bandwidth. We are not going to have better servers or anything like that but we will have a very large amount of bandwidth at our disposal. Ten terabytes to be exact.

So what does this mean to you?
Well, not much except that you won’t be able to play for another day or two. The second server is still being setup and after that spacetech will go in and set it up. Some files still need to be moved for Sassilization and Lounge and until that takes place they will be down. As for the website, everything should be back to normal and functioning normally. If you notice anything abnormal taking place please feel free to report it either on the forums or to webmaster@sassilization.com.

That’s all for now, I will edit this post with any updates we have.

Update 1
We have finished setting up both servers. Currently Deathrun and Climb are up with some slight difficulties in regards to jukebox.

The current IPs are:
Deathrun: deathrun.sassilization.com:27015 or 69.175.20.178:27015
Climb: climb.sassilization.com:27015 or 69.175.20.179:27015

Update 2
All the jukebox problems have been resolved.

Update 3
A much needed exception in the firewall was missing resulting in Apache on Server 2 to be blocked. This problem has been resolved and should greatly increase any download times when joining Deathrun and Climb.

Update 4
We were having issues with remote desktop which required restarting the servers, all services should be restored. There is an usual bug which has been keeping the Lounge and Sassilization servers down. We are trying to resolve this and hope to have them up soon. Any and all current downtime will be accounted for and credited to advertisement owners.

Update 5
The Lounge and all accompanying Sassilization servers are, at long last, up. All advertisement owners were given an additional week which should more than make up for the downtime.

Garry changed noclip :( - By on June 27th, 2009

Garry’s most recent update changed noclip. One of the neat features about it is that you can control the speed with sprint to go faster and duck to go slower. What I do not like about it is that it will make you crouch when you want to go slow (which is normally when you’re up close to something) and you have to reposition yourself to see where you were looking when you originally just wanted to move a tad. Another disappointment is that there is no more friction or acceleration. The biggest flaw is that you cannot edit the noclip movetype. I personally loved the feel of the old noclip. Now it feels very uncomfortable, but that could just be because the movement is new and different. Earlier this morning I set out to achieve the old noclip with Lua in order to restore a more natural movement for Nuclear Warfare. I used the source code for reference and it worked out great.
This works in Nuclear Warfare because players do not move up and down. I tried to set it up for natural noclip, but there is no UpSpeed on the MoveData for any MoveType except for MOVETYPE_NOCLIP as far as I could tell. Since I cannot override MOVETYPE_NOCLIP since garry’s change, I’m stuck unless I can figure out how to calculate it.

Climb Server - By cold on June 15th, 2009

After being talked about for a while Spacetech finally decided to go ahead and whip up a Climb server. If you’ve ever played the version in Counter-Strike (Source) you should be fairly familiar with the gamemode. The maps challenge your jumping ability every step of the way. It’s especially fun to watch everyone fail.

If you want to come and try it out you can connect with the ip climb.sassilization.com:27015 (alternativley, 216.245.193.132:27015). The server has 40 slots and allows you to use all your Deathrun bought hats and models (no trails however).

We hope to see you there!

New Ventrilo - By cold on June 10th, 2009

Recently our vent has dropped down to 10 slots. Our provider felt it was necessary to remove the free slots we got during a special they had on. Due to the fact that our current Ventrilo is now so small we felt it necessary to go out, find a better host, and get a bigger vent (50 slots). Come and drop in and tell us what you think, the channels have been restructured to match the structure of our servers so you can always find a channel for what you are currently doing in game.

The details are as follows:
IP: vent.sassilization.com (alternatively, vent58.light-speed.com)
Port: 5788

Want to Help Sassilization? - By on June 8th, 2009

You read correctly; If you’re creative and gifted artistically, now is your chance to help.
WE want to experiment with allowing players to vote on a map before joining a Sassilization game. I already know that I want the players to be teleported into a remote area of the Lounge map (probably the void) and then get a VGUI screen which gives them 20 seconds to vote which map to play. If you have any ideas on how the system should look, please make a mockup and post a link to the image in a comment as well as your forum username. I will no longer be needing mockups by Friday (6/12) so hurry up and open photoshop or whatever program you’re comfortable with.
What is your motivation? I don’t know…. Maybe you like the idea?

Map List Update - By on June 8th, 2009

Arabia (by <<-Sniper->>) is now updated and no longer in testing.

Here’s a small preview for those who haven’t played it.

Snow Temple was removed from the map list. It was missing materials and others did not enjoy it.

Had some fun in Sandbox - By on June 8th, 2009

I helped someone make tiny Antlions awhile back which we could control with a SWEP. We roped them to a statue and made them drag it around. It was fun and I forgot about it until recently.
