Sassilization: a Post-mortem

posted by on February 20th, 2013

DDoS protection

The past few months have been really hard for us. Our community has dwindled substantially, with many players leaving aggravated by the repeated server moves and host changes, the delays, setbacks and broken promises. The fact of the matter is — someone hates us. Someone really, really hates us. They don’t want the gamemode we’ve dedicated so much time and love to seeing the light of day.

These individuals have been flooding us with massive DDoS attacks non-stop for a considerable amount of time. We’ve gone though several hosts, but none of them have been able to withstand the barrage. This has taken quite a toll: most of the funds contributed to us over the years by our players are now gone. We are out of options, and this is our last stand.

We have moved our servers to a host that can guarantee us protection from any and all attacks. But being carefree, as you may know, has a big price tag — we only have enough money left to keep the servers up for 3 or, with the occasional donation, 4 months. Regardless, development on the RTS remains in full swing thanks to the ardent development team headed by Hateful and Chewgum. The final beta tests have begun, and we’re ironing out the kinks. If all remains well, Sassilization will return.

We need your support now more than ever.

Spread the word around, play on our servers, and please consider donating.

Three of our servers (Deathrun, Bunny Hop and Climb) are now located at the following IP: 192.31.185.138. If you’d like to add them to your favorites, open your server browser, click on “Add a Server” in the favorites tab and paste the IP in. All three servers are under the same IP address, as can be seen here, so just click “Add this address to favorites” to confirm. The individual hostnames are:

If you’ve been accepted into the closed RTS beta, the testing server can be found here: 192.31.185.140:27015. More information for testers is available in the Beta Testers’ Lair.

Thank you for reading, and let’s hope that Sassilization will make it through these hard times, emerging better and stronger.

Merry Christmas from the Team and Dr. Hax!

Server move #1337

posted by on December 24th, 2012

We moved servers again as the last one was a bit expensive and wasn’t really necessary (probably other stuff as well). We’re nearly completely back and running again.

Deathrun - 192.30.136.5:27015
Climb - 192.30.136.6:27015
Bunny Hop - 192.30.136.7:27015
Zombie Escape (now down for maintenance) – 192.30.136.8:27015

Enjoy, and don’t forget to add the new servers to your favorites!

New Moderators!

After a full week of reviewing the applications, we’ve made a decision. Congratulations to the following players:

Welcome to the team, guys!

Also, thanks to everyone for applying. With so many great applicants, it was hard to make a decision — but here we are! If you didn’t make the cut, you’ll have better luck next time.

Moderator Applications 2012

posted by on November 13th, 2012

It’s that time of year again!

In the following weeks, we will be picking new faces to join the team and help moderate and improve our servers. Everyone is welcome to apply, both regular players and VIPs!
The applications started yesterday, and the deadline for submitting an application is Sunday, the 25th of November at 23:59 (11:59 p.m.), meaning that you will have two weeks to step up and apply. There is no set number of moderator spots — we will hire as many moderators as we think are necessary at this time.

If you think you have what it takes, head on over to our forums’ Recruitment Desk and give it a shot.

Garry’s Mod 13 and ‘akkselerashun’

Hey, you shouldn't be looking at this!

Garry’s Mod 13

We’ve been working really hard on getting our slaves developers to update the game modes for you under the best conditions! Just kidding.
Since lots of thing borked upon the release of Gmod 13 we’re putting all hands on deck to get the servers online again for you for your enjoyment. We promise <3.

‘Akkselerashun’

Since I love numbers and useless graphs I made some to check our playerbase. It seemed that a few never finished downloading, so that brought me to some ideas. This is why we now have a CDN system in place for you.
This system will allow us to push our content to multiple servers (about 30) around the globe, giving amazing FastDL speeds for everyone.

You can thank me later!

Arco out

And we’re back!

Omeggerd, you shouldn't be here.

Gabe released our servers!

Boy, that was a mess. For who missed it; Gabe accidentally ate our servers and we had to wait for him to go to the bathroom. That was a mess.
All bad humor aside, the move has finished and we’re now 100% back on top. We love you guys.

OhMeGerd! How do I join?

While the old servers IP’s will redirect you (soon) we recommend that you readd our IP’s to your favorites.

Will there be ice creams?!

Yes, of course. Be there before we’re all out of dem ice creams!

Permanent Developer Applications (Lua)

posted by on July 26th, 2012

Developers Needed!

With the recent push to get The Lounge and Sassilization (Our RTS) done, our current developers are pushing it to the limit as it is.  We want to relieve some of that pressure by finding us some new developers whom would like to work on things with us as needed.

To apply you must:

  • Be experienced in the field of Garry’s Mod Lua and general Source Engine knowledge.
  • Be able to work well with a team of developers.
  • Keep organized! No one likes a sloppy developer.
  • And more – Read the forum post for more information!

If you think you have what it takes, head on over to our applications at the link below.  Be sure to read the guidelines on how to make an application.
